Aids & Mobility Suppliers

Aspergers:
National Aspergers Society, Lancaster and Morecambe Branch.
We are a team of volunteers, all parents of children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and we give our time to support other families affected by Autism in the Lancaster, Morecambe and surrounding areas. We provide regular local support groups, coffee mornings, meetings with guest speakers, training and leisure opportunities and we have a library of resources for parents and carers to borrow. We also take part in a variety of local activities to help raise awareness in the wider community and hold regular fundraising events to raise money for the Branch.

Has: a changing bench which is height adjustable, adult sized & free standing; a hoist, which is ceiling tracked (on a loop system). The toilet is centrally placed with room either side for carers. There is also a privacy screen between toilet and bench.

Next to the public toilets in the Festival Market Car Park, LA4 4DW. Same facilities as Lancaster (above). It is kept locked. The key is kept in Morecambe Visitor Information Centre, Platform Building, Marine Road Central (200m from toilets) Mon-Sat 9.30am – 5pm. Sunday (summer only) 10am-4pm Tel: 01524 582808.

Our aim is to provide support for people (especially children) with DS and their families in North Lancashire. Our meetings are informal and a place to meet other families. We have also had visits from therapists and portage teachers and we have social events - a games and dance evening, a summer garden party, ten pin bowling, a Christmas party etc. We have an e-newsletter and updates on local and national disability events and issues.  We are affiliated to the national Down’s Syndrome Association. 

Fork to Fork

Council Home Improvement & Handyperson Services
The city council’s home improvement team offers free home visits to give advice on all aspects of people’s property, including maintenance, repairs, energy efficiency and home safety, as well as dealing with builders and getting estimates.
The team can offer advice on welfare benefits and raising finance to carry out essential work, as well as advice on moving home.
A Handyperson service is available to carry out basic plumbing and other small jobs around the home, such as fitting grab rails and handrails, fixing door bells and locks, and fitting smoke alarms.
Help is also available from the city council for adapting the home for disabled residents.

For our collection service, library staff select books, including audio books, to suit your tastes and have them ready for a friend or relative to collect.
If you have no one to help, we can arrange for volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service to deliver items directly into your home on a regular basis, and collect them again when you've finished."

The Journey Cafe at the Dukes
Monthly film screening and social cafe supportively organised for older people with dementia / memory problems and their carers to attend at the Dukes, Lancaster. Lancaster & Morecambe Lions Club Bottle Scheme
The special bottle is kept in the fridge of a person who is alone or vulnerable and contains vital information about illness, allergies, medication, doctor, next of kin, pet info and any other information that might be useful to someone called to the house in an emergency. All emergency and relevant services locally know to look for it. Collectable from your chemist or health centre.

Neuro Drop-In Centre

Offers a one stop drop in and support centre for people affected by a neurological condition: multiple sclerosis, Parkinsons, ME, stroke, epilepsy, motor neurone's, MG, HC, etc. The centre is evolving and is usually slightly ahead of the online info - as you can see from the facebook page.
Open Mon, Tue and Thurs 10.30 am – 2.30 pm serving light refreshments including home made cakes in the bistro. There is a childrens indoor play area and high chair, children are very welcome.
