Exhibition: Temporary States - Joe Connolly

The Dukes Gallery, Lancaster LA1 1QE

Joe Connolly’s first solo exhibition in 15 years takes place at Lancaster’s Dukes gallery until January 27.

After spending time focusing more on teaching and family life, Joe has recently begun producing work again and some of his oil paintings are on display in Temporary States which looks at the temporary nature of landscape, human or architectural forms.

Joe said: “I liked the contradictory nature of the title for an exhibition of fixed work but ultimately I chose Temporary States to reflect impermanence and an openness to change but also as a reflection on the transition that my work has gone through over the past year. “

Joe is based in Lancaster and his recent work has also included commissions from a New York architects firm, a London art consultancy and a Californian-based design and fabrication studio.

He has sold work to collectors in New York, Zurich, Paris, Oslo, London and Berlin.

Joe’s training included a foundation course at Preston Polytechnic and a BA Hons degree at  Falmouth School of Art.  During his degree course, he also studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Rouen.

After graduating he continued to paint and exhibited work in group shows in Falmouth, Preston, London and the Netherlands.

Until his exhibition at The Dukes, Joe has only shown his work in group and open exhibitions most recently in the West Lancashire open at the Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk.

Gallery opening times are generally 6-10pm each evening. The Gallery is very often also open during the day - depending on event bookings. Visitors making a special trip should check opening times in advance with Box Office: tel. 01524 598500
