Korean Ink Painting workshop

Beginner’s Class (10:00 am–12:30pm, Tuesday)

Young will introduce Korean Ink painting history and fundamental brush techniques based on painting four plants called the Four Gentlemen (Orchid, Chrysanthemum, Bamboo, and Plum blossom).

5th March: Introduction of Korean Ink painting with basic ink brush techniques; covering orchid and chrysanthemum.
12th March: Bamboo, and Plum blossom paintings will be demonstrated and practice during the workshop.
19th March: other extended subject such as insect, bird, fish, and animals.


Young was born in South Korea, and earned a BFA and an MFA in Korean Painting at the College of Fine Art, Kyung-Hee University in South Korea. After ten years of working experience as an artist specializing in Korean painting, she went to San Francisco to study contemporary art and earned a second MFA in Painting at San Francisco Art Institute. She held eight solo exhibitions and forty-five group shows internationally, and recently received a PhD degree in Contemporary Arts at Lancaster University.

Two and half hours per session; 10 pieces of rice paper will be provided per session and all basic painting material are provided. Rice paper, ink, and brushes/ additional material purchase available during the workshops.

£60 for the group of three to include most materials, and light refreshments.
