Shrew performed by Mrs Pankhurst's Players

Halton Mill

A feminist adaptation of Shakespeare’s controversial play about marriage, gender and a father’s greed. Enter a dark world of gangsters, lip-synching and booze as the nightclub’s Drag Kings reveal a tale of privilege, greed and violence, where marriage is good business and women are property. Mrs Pankhurst’s Players are on their way to the Edinburgh Fringe.

This is a preview performance of Shrew, their original take on one of Shakespeare’s most controversial plays. This radical adaptation releases Shakespeare’s text from its comedic origins, reworking the original play to tell Kate’s story — a journey from strength and independence to a forced arranged marriage, foregrounding female experience in a man’s world.
