What Are The Stories of the Birds?
Facilitated by Claire Dean

Saturday 24th June
10am - 3.30pm @ The Friends Meeting House, Meeting House Lane (next to train station), Lancaster LA1 1TX

Stories can help us to understand lives other than our own, but our narratives are often human-centered. In a time of ecological crisis, are there other tales to be told?

Drawing on fairy tales, myth, contemporary literature, science and sensory experience we'll work through a series of exercises to explore if and how we can tell stories with
non-human voices to offer different perspectives on the world we're living in.

The workshop is open to all experience levels and you can work in prose or poetry. All you need to bring is pen and paper and a willingness to jump in.

Claire Dean's stories have been published in The Best British Short Stories, Murmurations: An Anthology of Uncanny Stories About Birds, Still, Shadows & Tall Trees,
New Fairy Tales: Essays and Stories and elsewhere.

Marionettes and Into the Penny Arcade are published as chapbooks by Nightjar Press. Her first collection, Unsettling Wonder, was published in 2014.

Claire has worked as an editor, project manager and festival coordinator, and is currently an associate lecturer at MMU. She lives in Lancashire with her two young sons.
