SUMMARY:Event: The Music of John Williams vs Hans Zimmer
DESCRIPTION:Experience a breathtaking celebration of John Williams\, Hans Zimmer and the greatest film scores ever written\, brought to life by a chamber orchestra at Lancaster Town Hall. Doors open at 6.45pm \nStep into a world where cinematic music history is brought to life. This year\, The Great British Film Orchestra proudly embarks on a spectacular UK-wide tour\, presenting The Music of John Williams vs Hans Zimmer – an orchestral duel between two titans whose scores have defined generations of storytelling. \nFor over half a century\, John Williams has shaped the sound of wonder itself. His unforgettable themes for Star Wars\, Indiana Jones\, Superman\, Jurassic Park and more have become modern mythology – fanfares that summon heroes\, awaken galaxies and stir the imagination of millions. His music is symphonic grandeur at its purest\, rooted in classical tradition yet alive with adventure\, heart and timeless magic. \nOpposing him stands Hans Zimmer\, the architect of bold\, thunderous\, revolutionary sound. With groundbreaking scores for The Dark Knight\, Gladiator\, The Lion King\, Inception and beyond\, Zimmer reinvented the very language of film music. His fusion of orchestra\, electronics\, and relentless rhythm forged a new cinematic era – powerful\, primal\, unmistakably modern. \nBringing these monumental worlds to the stage is The Great British Film Orchestra\, one of the UK’s premier symphonic ensembles devoted to the art of film music. Renowned for their rich\, commanding sound and vivid performances\, this chamber orchestra transforms every concert into a widescreen experience – transporting audiences from ancient coliseums and distant galaxies to enchanted kingdoms and shadowed cityscapes. \nThis extraordinary touring production is more than a concert – it is a celebration of two musical legends whose work has shaped the emotional core of cinema itself. Expect soaring strings\, heroic brass\, electrifying percussion and moments of pure\, breathtaking spectacle as Williams’ iconic themes meet Zimmer’s thunderous power in a night of symphonic glory. \nJohn Williams. Hans Zimmer. One orchestra. Infinite adventure.

SUMMARY:Event: Parody of the Rings
DESCRIPTION:An Hilarious and Epic Adventure! What happens when a cinema’s Lord of the Rings marathon goes terribly wrong? \nAt the local cinema\, all hell breaks loose when the ushers misplace the DVDs of The Lord of the Rings trilogy – every single copy! With only the soundtracks left in hand\, the team of hapless ushers must somehow improvise an entire three-film saga in front of a live audience. Get ready for an uproarious evening of comedy\, chaos\, and utter nonsense\, as they attempt to recreate the epic tale of hobbits\, elves\, and orcs – without any visuals\, any planning\, or any clue what they’re doing. \nWill Frodo ever make it to Mordor? Will Aragorn get crowned king? Will Gollum stop stealing the show? Will anyone even remember who’s supposed to be who?! \n  \n\n\nIt’s a show that’s more fun than a barrel of hobbits\, and definitely more chaotic than a Gandalf speech. If you’ve ever wanted to see Gollum fight a battle with sound effects\, or Gandalf desperately trying to remember what happens next\, then you’re in for a hilarious treat!

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Life After Death
DESCRIPTION:The landscape around us is studded with human remains. For thousands of years humans have used burial\, cremation and deposition in significant places to honour those who have died; each one leaves a mark. When ancient human remains are discovered historians and scientists can use an array of methods to try and discover the life behind their death. \nThis exhibition uses archaeology\, historical sources\, and new Raman spectrographic scanning techniques to capture what we know so far about human remains from four ancient sites in the local area.

SUMMARY:The Music of James Bond
DESCRIPTION:The Great British Film Orchestra presents The Music of James Bond live at the incredible Lancaster Town Hall! \nFrom the moment the first chord strikes\, audiences are transported into the mysterious and thrilling world of James Bond. This incredible Chamber Orchestra brings the legendary music of James Bond to life in a way that is bold\, elegant and utterly unforgettable. \nThis is more than a concert – it is an orchestral tribute to one of cinema’s most iconic legacies. Across six decades\, the music of Bond has been defined by extraordinary voices: Dame Shirley Bassey\, whose soaring performances of “Goldfinger”\, “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Moonraker” set the gold standard; Adele\, whose Oscar-winning “Skyfall” became an instant classic; Sam Smith’s haunting “Writing’s On the Wall”; and Billie Eilish’s powerful and poignant “No Time To Die”. These songs – and the artists behind them – have given Bond its unmistakable sound. \nPerformed by world-class musicians and vocalists\, every note echoes the sophistication of the James Bond universe. The sound of sweeping strings and bold brass stirs images of high-speed car chases\, exotic escapes and unforgettable encounters. The sultry tones of the singers evoke Bond’s timeless glamour. \nThis is a night where music and cinema intertwine\, where audiences don’t just listen to – they feel it\, they live it. \nThe Great British Film Orchestra is dedicated to celebrating the soundtracks that have defined the golden age of cinema and beyond. With each performance\, we honour the artistry of composers and storytellers who have given us moments that transcend the screen. \nSo\, don your finest attire\, raise a glass and prepare for an evening of breathtaking music and the unmistakable thrill of James Bond. \nWednesday 19th August 2026 | Doors: 6:45pm | Show: 7:30pm–9:10pm | Last entry: 7:15pm \nDisclaimer: This concert is an independent tribute production. It is not affiliated with\, sponsored by\, or endorsed by any rights holders of the James Bond franchise. Titles are used solely to describe the musical programme to audiences.
