Background

I am a Clinical Psychologist with in excess of 10 years’ clinical experience. I gained my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Edinburgh in 2004, and re-located to the North Lancashire area in 2010. I am registered with the Health Professions Council, registration number PYL16628 (www.hpcheck.org) and am chartered with the British Psychological Society.

Why Clinical Psychology?

A Clinical Psychologist is a specialist health professional who sees people experiencing psychological distress, most commonly depression and anxiety. Unlike medical doctors, clinical psychologists do not prescribe drugs but use psychological models to assess and treat such difficulties. Clinical psychologists use psychological therapies to help people gain a better understanding of their particular difficulties, develop ways of coping with their problems and build resilience.

Services I offer

I use time-limited evidence-based psychotherapies, most commonly Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement De-sensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). CBT is a psychological treatment that encourages people to develop their ability to identify and challenge negative thoughts, and to re-evaluate possibly unhelpful beliefs about themselves, other people and the world. I specialise in treating the psychological effects of trauma and can also help with a wide range of difficulties including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Bereavement
