Apoth-A-Kids invites families for free school holiday lunchtime meals and activities

Chris Satori

As the summer holidays quickly approach us, Mark Cutter and Tash Burns at the Apothecary Bar & Lounge on Penny Street in Lancaster city centre would like to invite you and your family to join them for a free lunch.

The Apothecary prides itself on its family-friendly community focus. For the past year & a half they have run a free food initiative (formerly based at The Robert Gillow) which intercepts excess food from supermarkets before its use-by date, and turns it into lovely meals, which are then made available free of charge.

This project has been hugely successful so far, with a wide range of food available all day, everyday.

This summer (24th July - 1st September) they've decided to expand this initiative in order to help parents during the summer holidays.

Landlord Mark Cutter explains: "As parents ourselves, we recognise that whilst the summer holidays are a time to enjoy seeing the children, this sometimes causes additional stress as you try to juggle keeping on top of everyday chores, keeping the kids happy and keeping everything within a budget.

"With this in mind we launch Apoth-A-Kids! Apoth-A-Kids is a daily lunch club available Monday to Friday between 12pm and 2pm. Our aim is to provide a free lunch consisting of a choice of soup, sandwiches, at least one hot dish, fruit, yoghurt & treats plus a schedule of fun activities (see the timetable pictured). Other activities will also be available on a daily basis such as colouring, Lego card trading & more! You don't have to come for the whole session - just stay as long as you want.

"If we can take the stress out of lunch and a trip to town for a busy mum or dad during the summer holidays then we've done a good job! So come down, join in. Everyone is welcome. There's no need to pre book but the children do need to be accompanied at all times."
