Armed Forces Day this weekend in Lancaster & Morecambe

Chris Satori

Armed Forces Day will be celebrated this weekend, first in Lancaster on Saturday and then in Morecambe on Sunday. It's a chance to support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. And if you're interested in things military there's plenty going on to see and do.

On Saturday from 12 - 4pm Lancaster Castle will be hosting an Historic Military Vehicle Display, a Bouncy Castle, Heroes Raffle Draw, and Military Modelling Exhibitions. There will be music and bands in Market Square.  New for this year - tours of the Regimental Chapel in Lancaster Priory.

On Sunday on Morecambe Promenade from 10.30am - 4.30pm there will be parachute & lifeboat demonstrations, live music, local cadets, army reserves, historic military vehicles and the heroes raffle draw.

The day will start with a Military Parade of serving and veterans of the Armed Services and Combined Cadet Forces, along the Promenade at 10:30.

A Drumhead Service in the Arena (or Winter Gardens if wet weather) will follow at 11:00.

Displays will include Military Vehicles, Parachute and Helicopter displays, live music – jazz and brass bands, historical armed forces exhibits and all the fun of a fair with much more.

Veterans and uniforms travel free on Stagecoach buses.

And the Kite Festival will be on too!
