Not The Lancaster Jazz Festival is back for 2010 at the Gregson and features the best in contemporary jazz from around the north of England on 31st October.

Play an instrument? Then come and play in the Cobra workshop at the start of the day. It's open to all musicians and will explore John Zorn's most popular game piece - with no scores or written music it just has a set of rules - game on.  (Take part and see everything else for just £2).

The first performance kicks off at 1.20pm and from then on its the best in local improvising talent from Huevos, The Initiative, Deep Cabaret and the World Line Ensemble.

The Leeds-based Northern Bloc Collective will also be descending on Lancaster with their bands; The Crank Project, Aubin Vanns Trio and Fractures, while from Manchester, you can look forward to performances from Dave Birchill, Matt Postle and duo Bayliss and Howard.

Offering 11 hours of invented sonic fun, this should be a great event for many music fans.
