Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously injured in a collision on Caton Road, Lancaster on Wednesday (27th December 2017), an accident which has led to part of the road being closed until the New Year.

At around 10.30am on the 27th December, police were called to reports that a black BMW and a DAF single decker bus had collided on Caton Road. The driver of the BMW suffered serious injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the bus and a number of passengers received minor injuries.

The road was closed for five hours while emergency services attended the scene.

Following the crash, Lancashire County Council closed part of the Road until 5th January, after the incident resulted in diesel being spilled. The diesel has damaged the road surface, leaving it in an unsafe state for traffic.

Resurfacing work is needed before it can be fully reopened.

Caton Road is closed from its junction with Mannin Way to Bulk Road, with drivers who want to access the M6 being alerted to use the Bay Gateway instead of Caton Road.

Limited access is being maintained for businesses based on Caton Road.

• Anyone with information, or who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, is urged to contact police on 101 quoting log number 494 of 27th December 2017
