Volunteer call for Freehold & Ridge Bonfire Night & Lantern Procession

Chris Satori

The Gregson Festival Group has announced that the Freehold and Ridge Community Bonfire and Firework display will be happening this year on Sunday November 5th.

It will be held at 7.30pm on Miss Whalley’s Field, which lies between Derwent Road and Kentmere Road.

The traditional Lantern Procession will leave the Gregson Centre at 7.00pm.  (This year, the Lantern making session will take place on Sunday October 29thbetween 1.00 and 3.00pm at the Gregson Centre.)

As always, your help is needed to make this great community event happen.  Stewards are desperately needed for the Lantern Procession and for the bonfire and firework display.  Volunteers are needed to help with setting up and building the fire and more volunteers to help with cleaning up the field on Monday November 6th in the morning.

If you can volunteer any time for any of the above or you would like more information please get in touch with  Billy Pye at  There will be a meeting for Stewards and anyone wanting more information on Wednesday 1st of November in the Gregson Centre at 8.00pm.

This is always friendly and sociable community event, and greatly appreciated by all the people who enjoy it. Many of us cross the city for the pleasure (nowadays it's a privilege) of remembering and teaching our youngsters what a proper community bonfire looks and feels like and the pleasure of meeting old friends again.

So if you fancy being a part of making this happen, please get in touch and come to the meeting.
