Sainsbury's Morecambe chooses St John's Hospice as new Local Charity partner

29/6/12: St. John's Hospice is set to benefit from a year's fundraising, thanks to Sainsbury's Morecambe customers and colleagues. The hospice has been chosen as Sainsbury's new Local Charity partner for 2012/2013, after the store asked Morecambe customers which local charity they should provide a year's support to back in May.

18/3/11: The things some people do for charity! Cover Supervisor Keiren Doyle at Heysham High School raised £250 for Comic Relief today by having his chest waxed. Pupils at the school also brought money in for wearing non-school uniform and Food Technology teacher Charlotte Western sold cakes at break times.

Gregson seeks old mobiles for charity

25/8/10: A group of people at Lancaster's Gregson Centre are trying to raise funds for the Community Bonfire in November this year, which will take place on Miss Whalley's field. One of the fund raising ideas is to collect old mobile phones and send them to one of the companies that buy them and then the Gregson can receive cash for them. All cash received can then go straight into the bonfire fund.

Lancaster Banger heads for Barcelona in aid of NSPCC

21/5/10: Four intrepid local lads are on their way to Barcelona in a beaten up motor to raise money for The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Now in Calais, the team are taking part in a 'banger rally', destination Barcelona (via Lyon and Nice) and although they say it's just for fun, they're aiming to raise at least £500 for the child protection society.

Animal Care seeks Spring Fair helpers

30/3/10: Lancaster's Animal Care charity on Lancaster's Blea Tarn Road is looking for help at its Spring Fair on Friday 9th April 2010 at St Martin of Tours in Westgate, Morecambe. They need people to help run stalls, serve refreshments or bake some cakes for them to sell on the day.

25/2/10: Five community groups in Lancaster and Morecambe can get going with projects for people in the district, thanks to grants from the Galbraith Trust. The Galbraith Trust meets quarterly to make grants to groups with charitable purposes within the Lancaster district.

Heroes of She headline Haiti benefit

15/2/10: Local band Heroes of She will headline a Haiti benefit gig at Lancaster's Gregson Centre on Sunday 21st February. The band will bring a packed day of events to a close with the explosive, self-penned sounds, including new material, that have brought them to the regional final of ‘Live and Unsigned 2010’, the UK’s biggest competition of its kind, next month.

Flood Charity Pop Video Has a Local Bite!

14/12/09: University of Cumbria film maker Russell Cherrington has joined forces with eighties chart-toppers It Bites to try and help victims of the recent devastating floods in Cumbria. The band, who are from Egremont, have recruited stars from the rock and pop world to record a new version of their classic hit Calling All The Heroes.
