Date set for Harbour ward council by-election

31/8/10: The date for a by-election to elect a new councillor for the Harbour ward of Lancaster City Council has been announced as Thursday 7th October. Anyone who is interested in standing as a candidate should telephone the elections office on 01524 582905. The closing date for nominations is noon on Friday 10th September. The vacancy has arisen following the recent sad death of Coun John Barnes.

Register to vote - it could win you £200

21/7/10: Lancaster City Council is enticing local people to register to vote with a cash prize draw for £200. Each year the council is required by law to canvass every household in the district and produce a Register of Electors. The forms for this year’s canvass will be distributed from the end of this month (30th July) and every household in the district should have received one by 10th August.

Date announced for Skerton West City Council by-election

28/3/10: The date for a by-election to elect a new councillor for the Skerton West ward of Lancaster City Council has been announced. Voters in the ward will go to the polls on Thursday 6th May - possibly the same day as the General Election. Euro Election Frustrates Sitting MEP

8/6/09: The North West’s Liberal Democrat MEP Chris Davies said that he was content but not ecstatic with his party’s performance in the European elections after the results for the North West were announced on Sunday. The Conservatives took three seats, Labour two and the UK Independence Party, Liberal Democrats and British National Party one each in the North West.

Conservatives Take Lancashire in Election

5/6/09: The Conservatives have ousted Labour from power in Lancashire - and the British National Party have taken their first seat on the County Council. The Liberal Democarts have gained four councillors and the Greens one, again in Lancaster. The Consrvative Party's win ends 28 years in opposition since they lost power to Labour in 1981.

19/5/09: Lancaster City Council is reminding people who have registered to vote by post that postal votes are being sent out this week. Local elections will take place for Lancashire County Council, Morecambe Parish Council and the European Parliament on 4th June. There will also be a by-election for the Castle ward on Lancaster City Council on this date.

Green Councillor Resigns

23/4/09: Green Councillor Catriona Stamp, who has represented the Castle Ward since her election in 2007 and previously represented Scotforth West Ward from 2003 to 2007, has resigned from Lancaster City Council. "Over the last year I have struggled to fulfil my duties as a councillor, due to ill health and an increase in other commitments," she explained.
