Currently there are about 850,000 cases in the UK, with numbers expected to reach over a million by 2021.

15/5/15: A week-long schedule of events has been organised in libraries and museums across Lancashire to support Dementia Awareness Week and the support services available. The events at libraries from Sunday 17th May to Saturday 23rd May will promote the use of books to help people living with dementia, their families, friends and the carers who support them.

Oscar's Wine Bar - court date set after investigation concludes into 'Nitro Cocktail' accident

15/12/14: Court proceedings have been started under health and safety legislation against a wine bar, one of its directors and an employee, following the conclusion of an investigation by Lancaster City Council into an incident involving an 18-year-old girl and a cocktail containing liquid nitrogen.

New EU food rules welcomed by allergy sufferers

12/12/14: Lancashire Trading Standards Service is reminding food businesses they will be required to provide detailed information on 14 allergens they use in their ingredients from this Saturday, 13th December. The European Union Food Information for Consumers Regulations will apply to pre-packed or loose food.

Lancashire's fleet of 49 gritters will be out tonight for the first time this winter. They will treat the roads whenever a freeze is expected.

Lancashire residents urged to get free health checks

9/9/14: Lancashire residents are being urged to go for free NHS health checks at their local GP surgery. Lancashire County Council is launching a campaign to encourage more people aged between 40 and 74 to take up the free checks, which can help identify and prevent the most common causes of early death.

Lancaster City Council joins fight against Campylobacter for Food Safety Week

9/6/14: A quarter of a million people in the UK could be struck down by Campylobacter this year, three times the capacity of the London 2012 Olympic stadium. The fight against Campylobacter will be at the centre of this year’s Food Safety Week (16-22 June), an annual campaign run by the Food Standard’s Agency in conjunction with local authorities.
