Bailrigg Garden Village - South Lancaster Development

In January 2017 the Bailrigg area of Lancaster was chosen by the Government as the proposed location of a new Garden Village. Lancaster City Council has included the Garden Village as a proposal in its draft Local Plan, which decides what land should and should not be allocated for development. (Series)

18/8/17: New local campaign group CLOUD hosted a packed public meeting at the Boot & Shoe on Wednesday to discuss Lancaster City Council's 'Bailrigg Garden Village' proposals - a plan to build a super-estate of 3,500 - 5,000 new homes on greenfield sites from Scotforth and Hala to Galgate.

Powderhouse Lane housebuilding proposal withdrawn after public opposition

3/8/17: Controversial plans for 51 new homes on recreational land next to the Vale of Lune Rugby Club have been withdrawn in the face of widespread opposition. The plans for a piece of land also bordered by the Torrisholme, Westgate and Bare cricket grounds had sparked scores of objections from residents.

Freeman's Wood to be sold to new developer if outline planning permission granted

5/4/17: Outline planning permission is being sought for the Freeman's Wood area. The owners, Bermuda-based Property Trust, don't plan to develop the site themselves, but to obtain outline planning permission and then sell it to a developer at a substantial profit. Freeman's Wood: Consultation on Satnam Plan to Build 250 Homes

31/3/17: The Property Development Trust's planning consultants, Satnam, are drafting a proposal to build 250 new homes on the land now occupied by Freeman's Wood. They will be holding a consultation display about it at the Storey, this Wednesday 5 April, from 12 noon - 6.45pm. There's also an online survey.

Lancaster's Draft Local Housing Plans based on 2015 forecast of big increases in international immigration. Consultation ends tomorrow

22/3/17: Lancaster City Council's consultation period for the Local Plan on land allocation for development ends tomorrow, Friday 24 March. The Plan is based on a 2015 Turley report that doubled housing need to 14,000 new homes because it predicted 'higher rates of international immigration' every year.
