Police Appeal for witnesses after M6 collision

11/7/16: Police are appealing for witnesses after a car overturned on the M6 near Carnforth. At around 1.15pm on Sunday 10th July a Peugeot 207 was travelling in the third lane of the northbound carriageway between Junction 35 and Burton in Kendal Services when it touched the central reservation before it collided with the nearside barrier and overturned.

Overnight closures required on M6 between Junctions 34 and 35 Next Week

18/5/16: Drivers using the M6 in Lancaster are being advised of two overnight closures as part of ongoing works for the Heysham to M6 Link Road. On Monday 23rd May, the motorway will close at 8.00pm and re-open by 6.00am the following morning. A second provisional closure is booked for Tuesday 24th May 8.00pm to 6.00am.

M6 Junction 34 southbound sliproad overnight closures

16/4/15: Drivers using the southbound sliproads of Junction 34 of the M6 in Lancaster next week are being advised of five consecutive overnight closures as part of ongoing works for the Heysham to M6 Link Road.

Accident on M6 - overnight lane closure

24/7/14: On the M6 southbound between junctions J35 (Carnforth) and J34 (Lancaster North), there are currently delays of 1 hour caused by congestion due to carriageway resurfacing work closing the road between junctions J34 and J33 following an earlier multi-vehicle accident. The road is expected to re-open from 6am on Friday 25 July 2014.

Torrisholme Road to be closed for three days for Link Road work

27/3/14: Lancashire County Council has announced Torrisholme Road and Lancaster Road will be closed completely to vehicle traffic from 8.00am Monday 7th April to 6.00am Thursday 10th April, between Russell Drive and 179 Torrisholme Road (by Lancaster Morecambe College entrance).

Junction 33 Roadworks start next week

10/1/14: Work to install four of the latest giant electronic message signs near Junction 33 of the M6 will start on Monday 13th January for two months. The signs will give drivers better warnings of incidents and other information about the motorway such as weather conditions.

Witness appeal after man dies on the M6 motorway

11/11/13: Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died on the M6 motorway. At shortly after 9.00pm on Sunday 10th November police began to pursue a grey Ford Focus Sport on Preston New Road in Blackpool following an incident in Montague Street, South Shore where a man had deliberately driven his car at a woman resulting in minor injuries.

Bridge and carriageway work to begin on M6 at Garstang

20/9/13: Improvements to the southbound carriageway and motorway bridge on the M6 near Garstang in Lancashire will begin on Monday 23rd September. The £100,000 project involves installing new bridge joints onto the bridge which crosses the motorway between junctions 33 and 32, followed by repairs to the southbound carriageway, and will be completed by Thursday 10th October.

Motorway accident victim named

4/6/13: Following the fatal road traffic collision on the M6 last week, the man who died has now been named as 34-year-old Mark Wilson from Kendal. "Mark was an amazing, genuine man," said his family in a statement, "and anyone who knew him would speak kindly of him.

M6 closed between Junction 32 and 33 after two vehicle crash

22/4/13: The M6 southbound between junctions 33 and 32 is currently closed following a two vehicle collision and is expected to remain closed for at least an hour. Drivers are asked to avoid the area where possible. Police were called around 9.10am following a collision between a Toyota and a VW Polo. The two drivers, a man and a woman, have been taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

Bridge Work set to begin on M6 Junction

15/3/13: Bridge work will begin overnight on Thursday 21 March on the Junction 34 of the M6 near Lancaster between 8.00pm and 6.00am. During these times there will be a 50mph speed restriction on both carriageways around Junction 34, as well as closures of the southbound entry slip road. There will be a clearly signed diversion in place via Junction 35.

Local motorway work this coming week

22/2/13: Roadworks will be taking place on two local roads this coming week (Monday 25th February to Sunday 3rd March 2013). A project to carry out repairs, replace lane markings and upgrade reflective road studs on the southbound side of the M6 is due to begin on Monday 25 February on the M6 junctions 33 to 32, Lancaster to Preston.

M6 accident vicitim 'critical'

5/2/13: Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a young man was seriously injured in a road traffic collision on the M6 northbound last night (Monday 4th February). The collision took place at 7.10pm just prior to the exit slip at junction 29 when a 26-year-old man from Thornton Cleveleys, who was on his way home from work, was travelling in a silver BMW along lane three.

M6 southbound re-opened after motorway tragedy

9/7/12: The southbound carriage way has now reopened after the death of a man on the M6 near Junction 31. Traffic is busy and moving slowly because, police tells us, motorists are "rubbernecking". Sergeant Jon Allwright said, “We are still dealing with this incident and accident investigation work is taking place on the northbound carriageway.

M6 closed after man hit by car

9/7/12: The M6 has been closed in both directions after a man has been hit by a car on the northbound carriageway just after junction 31 at around 1.30pm. Sadly, the man has died. The motorway will remain closed whilst the body is removed and accident investigation work is carried out. Traffic is busy in the area and we would advise motorists to avoid the area.

Motorway Work news for Lancaster area

10/2/12: Works on the M6 motorways will travel plans for some time, the Highways Agency has warned. Locally, daytime investigation work is being carried out on the A683 Caton Road between the M6 north and southbound slip roads at junction 34. Work will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm from Monday 13th to Friday 17th February.

Lancaster Police issue motorway weather warning

9/2/12: Lancaster Police are warning motorists to slow down and drive to the conditions as freezing weather has caused a number of accidents on the M6 motorway. "We are experiencing difficulties on the M6 between Junction 33 and junction 36 on both carriageways," they say. "This morning we have attended 10 damage only road traffic collisions. This is because of the weather conditions.

M6 Northbound Closures Update

1/11/11: 1430: Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service are still currently at the scene of the incident which involved a spillage of waste solvent from a tanker which has closed the M6 northbound between Junctions 29 and 31.

M6 northbound closed at J31 after tanker spillage

1/11/11: The M6 Northbound carriageway is closed just before Junction 31 serving Preston and Clitheroe due to a tanker spillage. All four lanes of the carriageway are closed and Police, Fire and Highways Agency are on the scene. Police warn the road closures are likely to be in place for some time and are asking people to avoid travelling to the area if possible.
