Review: 'Educating Rita' at the Dukes

7/4/18: Dukes Director Sarah Punshon follows her Christmas success 'Aladdin' with another strong production, Educating Rita. It's an economical play. One set, two characters, several years. It's a ripping fairytale of magic and love, betrayal and loyalty, rags to riches, with exuberant musical numbers, staged in the friendly intimacy of The Round. The only ‘brief encounter’ was the aproned lady from refreshments kissing her other half goodbye on the opposite platform. We were going to Leeds to collect a new (to us) vehicle. My other half was irritatingly excited.
