Held at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire, the Padgetts Honda ace overcame being pushed wide on the opening lap to end the shortened race in 14th place.

Plan ahead to make the most of the Olympic Torch Relay

18/6/12: There's not long to go before the Olympic Torch is due to pass through the Lancaster district – and local people are being urged to plan ahead to make the most of this once in a lifetime opportunity. The Torch will be passing through the Lancaster district on 22nd June, starting from Carnforth at approximately 9.47am. It then moves on the Bolton-le-Sands, Hest Bank, Morecambe and Lancaster.

Majestic McGuinness makes it TT win number 18

2/6/12: Morecambe's John McGuinness made it TT win number 18 when he clinched victory in Saturday's 6-lap Superbike race. The Honda TT Legends ace had to overcome an early challenge from fellow Honda rider Cameron Donald but aided by the fastest lap of the race, 130.483mph, John was able to consistently edge away in the second half of the race and he eventually took the chequered flag by 14.86s.

Thumbs up for Youth Games 2013?

29/7/11: Labour councillors on Lancaster City Council have given a massive thumbs up to hosting the International Youth Games in Lancaster in 2013. When the Games were last due to be held in the District in 2009 the council withdrew support as a cost-cutting measure. Now councillor Eileen Blamire, leader of the council, has suggested that the cost could be spread over two financial years.

More than 1,000 celebrate start of Olympic countdown

27/7/11: More than 1,000 local people took part in over 40 sports, art and games events taking place across the Lancaster district as part of the 2012 Open Weekend. The Open Weekend took place from 22 to 24th July and saw over 20 clubs and community organisations join forces with Lancaster City Council to give residents access to free activities.

Lancaster athletes head for Youth Games in Denmark

The 2011 International Youth Games will be held in Aalborg from 2 – 7 August and will see a group of over 50 young people aged between 13 and 15 representing their clubs, schools, town and country at the games.

14/7/11: Morecambe FC boss Jim Bentley has told fans he wants every day to be a flag day at the Globe Arena. Bentley is offering fans the chance to put up a flag in the home terracing at the Globe Arena for the coming season to add a splash of colour and atmosphere at home games.

Youngsters to reel in prizes at fishing competition

12/7/11: A quick reminder that young anglers can reel in prizes by taking part in a police fishing competition later this month. Junior angling matches, organised by Lancashire Police, give youngsters the opportunity to receive free fishing tuition and then put it into competitive practice. The next event will take place on Saturday 30th July at Borwick Waters, Borwick, Carnforth.

Solid weekend at Scarborough for McGuinness

21/9/10: Morecambe motorcycling champ John McGuinness made his annual trip to Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough at the weekend and the put in his usual solid performances around the woodland circuit. Armed with just his Padgetts Honda Superstock machine, he was able to finish in the top five in all three of his races and once again thoroughly enjoyed his weekend on the North Yorkshire coast.

Heysham Pool launches new autumn programme

20/8/10: Heysham Pool is launching its new autumn programme to encourage people to get their bathers on. For people who are early risers, come along to the early bird sessions taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30 - 9.00am. 14/6/10: Morecambe's John McGuinness was denied a 16th win at the Isle of Man TT Races on Friday when he was forced to retire from the Senior race, the final race of the 2010 event. The HM Plant Honda rider was leading the initial race before it was stopped due to an accident and was lying in second in the re-start just half a second shy of eventual winner Ian Hutchinson.

McGuinness sets TT pace

3/6/10: After a steady start to the 2010 Isle of Man TT Races, Morecambe's John McGuinness became the first man to lap at more than 130mph in practice this week when he set a scorching lap of 130.242mph during Wednesday evening's third session. Conditions were perfect on the Island and McGuinness took full advantage to go almost nine seconds quicker than his nearest rival.
