13/10/15: Lancaster University Students Union student newspaper SCAN has an interesting report about student lettings boss John Sanderson, who has liquidated his company, LPNM, one of the Lancaster's largest student housing providers; and is blaming students for the company's collapse, citing unpaid rents.

Lancashire Police launches student safety pages

26/9/13: Lancashire Police have launched social media pages on both Facebook and Twitter to help improve the safety of the local universities’ students. The social media work is part of Lancashire Police’s 2013 Freshers campaign, which aims to educate students on how to take responsible steps so that they are not the victims of crime.

University of Cumbria offers Clearing Tips video for would-be students

The University of Cumbria, which as a campus in Lancaster, has recorded a video offering helpful tips and advice for students who will go through Clearing as they look to secure a place at university.

Lancaster students warned: guard belongings on nights out

16/3/13: Alfred Efosa A Blackpool man has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment this week, after stealing from female students in Lancaster when they were on a night out. At an earlier hearing, Alfred Efosa, 21, had pleaded guilty to one robbery and to five charges of theft, relating to a number of incidents at Toast nightclub on North Road and on Pitt Street, in November 2012.

Cumbria University opens clearing hotline to support students

15/8/12: The University of Cumbria opens its clearing hotline tomorrow (Thursday 16 August) to support students receiving their A Level results. The call centre opens at 7.00am and will be manned by university staff who can advise students on their options. Guidance will be offered around availability, timescales, necessary interviews, course details and signposting to other support services.

Appeal following assaults in Lancaster

12/10/10: Police in Lancaster are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information after three separate assaults in the town last weekend -- two of them on students. The first incident took place around 11.50pm on Friday 8th October 2010 when a student was assaulted as he got out of a taxi on Lancaster's South Road.

27/9/10: The Health Protection Agency is asking universities and further education colleges to encourage students to check that they have previously been fully vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella and Group C meningococcal infection.

Freshers offered crime prevention advice at start of new term

24/9/10: Freshers at Lancaster and Morecambe’s colleges and universities are being offered crime prevention advice as they start their new term. Over 20,000 students come to the north of the county to study each year at campuses including Lancaster University, the University of Cumbria and Lancaster and Morecambe College.

'Bubble' Heads arrested at Sugarhouse student club

1/2/10: Students and youngsters are being warned about the dangers of ‘Bubble’, a relatively new drug that mixes fertiliser and amphetamines, after seven people were arrested at a Lancaster nightclub at the weekend. Door staff at Lancaster’s Sugarhouse alerted police after compulsory searches on Friday night revealed seven students were carrying white powder.

20/8/09: Students at Lancaster University are among the most satisfied in the country, according to the latest National Student Survey. Lancaster University has been ranked 11 overall in the table or joint 9th amongst more than 100 similar institutions with 89 per cent of Lancaster students saying they were satisfied with the overall student experience.
