Views sought on councillor numbers
Lancaster City Council is urging local people to have their say on the number of councillors they think should represent the district from 2015.
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has started an ‘electoral review’ to determine the number of councillors who should sit on the council in the future.
Currently, 60 councillors represent the district on the council from 28 wards. The review will determine if this is still appropriate or should be reduced to 50 or 40.
Local people are being invited to give their views as part of the process.
The consultation ends on 11th June 2012 and the Commission will then consider the evidence provided by local people and organisations, publishing its proposal on the total number of councillors in July 2012.
Following this, information will be gathered from local people and organisations on new ward boundaries across the Lancaster district.
