Exhibition: The Rhythm of Stitch

Textile art from Preston Threads
Textile art from Preston Threads
The Dukes, Moor Lane, Lancaster LA1 1QE

Preston Threads have their latest exhibition at The Dukes gallery all sewn up.

The contemporary textile group, who are still thriving after more than 25 years, have used rhythms of all kinds to inspire their work which will be on display in Lancaster. One member combines her interest in music with her embroidery skills while others have been inspired by water, plants, pattern, maps and Maori designs. The Dukes itself has even proved inspirational to one member who has translated many of the events at the Lancaster theatre into her work.

The Rhythm Of Stitch is the latest in a number of successful exhibitions Preston Threads have staged since the group was founded by women who had just completed their City and Guilds embroidery qualification. They aim to promote embroidery and textile art through exhibiting and other activities and to challenge the creativity of members.

Preston Threads have members from across the North West of Lancashire who meet regularly at Samlesbury Bottoms to inspire and help the development of each other’s work through mentorship from renowned textile artists.

The exhibition runs from January 29 to March 24 and can be viewed during normal Dukes opening hours. If you are making a special trip to see it, call the Box Office as sometimes the gallery is used for other activities.
