My love for landscapes has taken me on a rich journey through places that are full of contrasting states: wild and cultivated, arid and verdant, rugged and fragile, ever-changing and apparently constant. The raw, powerful experience of being immersed in dramatic mountain environments and managed rural land has been a constant source of inspiration which has enabled me to draw upon the connection between the rhythms of walking, and the passing seasons and response to my changing surroundings. Living here in the north-west, I am constantly intrigued by geological qualities of landscape and the visible impact that climate change and industry effects over time.

Impressive is nature’s vitality and seemingly eternal resilience against human activity!

I attempt to convey my observations of weather events and overuse/exploitation of the land. I find sharply contrasting playful beauty and meaning in overlooked and haphazard arrangements of water’s-edge debris. Lakeside, riverbank and fell views lend themselves to my love for the colour and  texture of foliage and reflections of their surroundings, thus enabling me to explore imagery that celebrates growth, movement and form.

Accentuated by fleeting sunlight and deep shade, the motifs speak of a complex yet unassuming aesthetic of our own inner landscapes: the power of reflection, through looking and contemplation.
