Public meeting: Mental Health and Education in schools and universities?

Venue:
Gregson Centre, Lancaster LA1 3PY
Organisers:
Lancaster, Morecambe and District NUT

Following in the same vein as the 'teach outs' organised by the magnificent UCU strikes in the last few weeks we seek to strengthen the solidarity that has been built between our two unions, UCU and National Education Union (NUT section) Students Parents and the wider community. The strikes raised questions about what kind of education we want.

There is a battle being fought across sectors from nursery to university between those who want diversity and creativity in a system that meets the interests of humanity and those who are forcing through a neo liberal agenda of privatisation and marketisation in the interests of profit.

We are becoming increasingly aware of the impact of the latter on the mental health of students of all ages.

The discussion will be led off by an NUT head and activist and a UCU lecturer. There will be plenty of time for discussion so please come with a 2 minute contribution. We will be looking for common ground and ways we can support each others' campaigns.

A publication by More than a Score containing various papers on education curriculum academisation and the testing regime will also be available.

All welcome!
