We Are Improv perform in Dublin |
Lancaster’s improvised theatre company, We Are Improv recently returned from a run of sell out performances at the Irish Improv Festival to discover their star has risen. They have a flurry of invitations and bookings for other festivals and events over the next twelve months.
Despite dubious blarneystone practices on the part of the opposition at the Dublin-based festival they treated audiences to their improvised Famous Five-style adventure story and were delighted to receive five star reviews and trigger a wave of positive comments via social media. The new year will see this bold company taking their innovative shows to many new venues across the country.
Despite a busy schedule of performances We Are Improv will continue to perform at the Storey every second month. They have a show coming up on 18 December – Improvised Festive Tales at The Storey at 7pm (just £3 on the door).
This will be an opportunity to see the cast at their quirky best as they weave a tale of humour and intrigue centered around a workplace Christmas party and inspired by festive (and not so festive) suggestions from you the audience.
From February We Are Improv founder, Katy Bateson will be running two six week introduction to improv courses, daytime (Mondays 10.30am – 12pm) and evening (Tuesdays 6.30 – 8pm) for all those who wish to discover the joy of improv in a fun and encouraging environment. The courses cost just £30.
On Thursdays 15 + 22 January from 6.30 – 8pm she’s also running a 2 week improvisation taster course for £10. To reserve a place email info@weareimprov.co.uk
She tells us:
“Improv is a huge morale booster and people who try it report all sorts of benefits, the most relevant of these for many people being a big increase in confidence which is transferable to all areas of life!
“Improvisation is quite simply acting without a script, not necessarily on the stage for an audience but simply for the joy of it. Improv sessions include playing games and creating scenes and there is never any pressure to participate, perform or remember lines and therefore no embarrassment about making mistakes because when you make it up as you go along there is no right or wrong! Improvisation is a fun, exciting, creative way to add some true joy and imagination to your week.
“With the teacher’s sensitive approach even a nervous beginner will leave improv sessions feeling happy and uplifted by the joy of collaborative creation and laughter.”
