Labour’s Cat Smith has snatched the Lancaster & Fleetwood seat away from previous incumbent Eric Ollerenshaw (Conservative) with a margin of 1,265 votes.
The vote for Lancaster and Fleetwood was as follows: Cat Smith (Lab) 17,643, Eric Ollerenshaw (Tory) 16,378, Matthew Aktins (UKIP) 4,060, Chris Coates (Green) 2,093. Robin Long (Lib Dem) 1,390, Harold Elletson 174.
The Labour, Conservative and Green candidates all polled more votes than their respective party candidates had in 2010. However the Lib Dem vote collapsed from a 2010 total of 8,167.
Eric Ollerenshaw’s principle achievement, while in office, was to write a very great quantity of letters to his constituents, on House of Commons notepaper, explaining why they were wrong and he was right.

David ’empty chair’ Morris, Conservative, was re-elected as Morecambe and Lunesdale MP, with a hefty majority of 4,590. Morris reckons his proudest achievement to date has been the procurement of a new link road to serve the Peel Group Port at Heysham.
The Morecambe & Lunesdale vote was: David Morris (Tory) 19,691, Amina Lone (Lab) 15,101, Steve Ogden (UKIP) 5,358, Matthew Severn (Lib Dem) 1,612, Phil Chandler (Green) 1,395, Michael Dawson (Northern) 85.
Morris’ majority quintupled from just 866 in 2010 ( then against local incumbent Geraldine Smith, Labour).
Following the national trend, the Lib Dem vote collapsed from a 2010 total of 5,791. The greatest gain went to Steve Ogden of UKIP, In 2010 UKIP polled 1,843.
