There’s a great exhibition of the work of talented local artists at Lancaster City Museum at the moment, showing off the art of many local artists.
The exhibition, which runs until Sunday 13th December will showcase around 80 artworks by members of the Lancaster and District Art Society, and, alongside it, are a small number of the Museum’s holdings of art by artists from the 1930s and earlier.
The exhibition offers a wide range of work to enjoy, from watercolours and oils to acrylics and mixed media and the paintings cover a variety of subjects from local scenes, portraits and abstracts.
Most of the works are for sale.
Among my favourites are Sunderland Point by Norman Shadwell (above) and an atmospheric steam engine inspired painting by SR McDude titled Green Ayre Railway Station and Lou Morton‘s image of Church Street.
The Lancaster and District Art Society was set up in 1946 to promote ‘the practice of drawing and painting in all mediums’. It currently has around 60 members and welcomes anyone with an interest in art who would like to meet like-minded enthusiasts.
