Drivers using Lancaster Road (A6) in Slyne are being advised of a weekend closure to facilitate works for the Heysham to M6 Link Road; these include several service and drainage crossings of the existing carriageway.
Following liaison with the key stakeholders, Costain will close Lancaster Road (A6) between Throstle Grove (The Keys) and Green Lane (Beaumont College) from midnight on Friday 5th June to 6am on Monday 8th June.
Costain’s Project Director, Andrew Langley said “Works are expected to be completed earlier than Monday morning but the paving material requires time to gain strength prior to opening, the carriageway will be re-opened as soon as it is available. Access to The Keys public house and residences will be available at all times”.
Although diversion signs will be erected, its important drivers familiarise themselves with alternative routes, and plan their journeys ahead. The sign-posted diversion which needs to accommodate for heavy good vehicles will be as follows
- The diversion for Lancaster bound traffic from the north will be via Coastal Road onto Marine Road upto Broadway, Morecambe Road and onto the A6 via the A683.
- From Lancaster heading north, traffic will be diverted from traffic lights by the petrol station at the end of Torrisholme Road, via Scale Hall Lane, Morecambe Road, Broadway turning right onto Marine Road, onto Coastal until it re-joins the A6.
- Access to Hest Bank Lane businesses and residences will be available from the junction with Throstle Grove/ Hasty Brow Road only.
- Pedestrian access will be available throughout the closure on sign-posted walkways, however cyclists must dismount.
“To help minimise the closures required in this area, we have aligned all the road crossings required and planned to do them in this full closure of the A6, we thank people for their patience whilst we carry out these works.” Andrew Langley added.
