Local charity Money for Madagascar is pressing ahead with its vital fundraising Cross Bay Walk this Saturday, despite the rail strike. Places are still available, so why not join in?
Due to the rail strike, the charity has organised coaches to take walkers from Grange over Sands to Arnside to start the walk.
Madagascar, whilst famous for its astonishing flora and fauna, is a country in crisis. After decades of economic disarray, levels of income, healthcare and education are amongst the lowest in the world with an estimated 70% of the country living in poverty. Meanwhile population growth is putting enormous pressure on precious rainforest, more than half of which has disappeared.
In response to this social and environmental crisis, UK charity, Money for Madagascar, which is Lancaster based, was founded in 1986 to enable the Malagasy people to take charge of their own destiny.
