The Inland Waterways Association‘s 2015 National Trailboat Festival takes place this weekend (30th May – 1st June) at the Westmorland Show Ground, Crooklands, Cumbria, on the northern reaches of the Lancaster Canal.
The festival, which is to be hosted and organised by Lancaster Canal Trust, will be part of the ‘Country Fest’ show (see the Country Fest website), an annual canal side event.
The Countryfest is a two day show and will take place over the weekend with activities for the whole family, as well as a variety of food and drink providers, exhibitors, food demonstrations, trade stalls, music and dance, crafts and a beer festival to entertain visitors.
There will be a boaters day on the Monday with a visit to the Hincaster Tunnel, and hopefully an opening of the restored stretch. The Inland Waterways Association’s annual Trailboat Festivals are usually held on isolated stretches of inland waterway, and aim to promote the restoration or development of local waterway, a feature on it, or to promote an under-used waterway.
The IWA is a registered charity, founded in 1946, that advocates the conservation, use, maintenance, restoration and development of all inland waterways for public benefit.
