These writers and lecturers have been very pro-active in organising various literary events within Lancaster including 'Stories at the Story'. They give their view on building on their successes, a plans to offer writing workshops, and a discussion of the literary life.

Boomtown - From Front Line to White Lund

28th June to 12th November 2017

A fascinating exhibition hosted at the Lancaster City Museum, that marks the centenary of a devastating explosions at White Lund National Filling Factory that was manufacturing munitions for the first world war. The museum is closed on Mondays.

Treasure Island

4th July to 19 August 2017

A new twist to Robert Louis Stevensons classic novel. The audience meet Jem Hawkins, a girl with a plan – to escape her troubles, travel the world and make a new life for herself. This is family entertainment at its best. The performance has been extended for another week due to popular demand.

Who Wants To Live Forever?: Theatre

Who Wants To Live Forever?, a work in progress performed on September 14, is about one woman’s life-long love for Billie Holiday’s music, for the stars and for her lost baby brother.

Morale Is High(Since we gave up hope) will be performed by Powder Keg, winners of the Royal Exchange Theatre’s Hodgkiss Award 2016. It explores the effects of popular culture, political policy and inane day-to-day actions on who we choose to vote for.

Shop for a prop

The Dukes is selling off a unique prop from the current outdoor walkabout production of Treasure Island. A shark puppet currently appearing in Treasure Island in Lancaster’s Williamson Park could be yours after the show ends on August 19.

Produced by the critically acclaimed Dick George Creatives, leading film, tv and live events propmakers, the shark is for sale on Ebay. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to The Dukes which is a registered charity.

The shark features aluminium lightweight poles for manual operation of the body and a movable jaw which can be operated from the head rod of the body. The puppet is a whole piece and does not come apart.

The shark would be available from August 20 when the successful owner would be required to collect it from The Dukes in Moor Lane.

Anyone interested in bidding for the shark has until August 18 to do
