A neighbourhood police officer in Heysham has given out shed alarms to allotment owners following a spate of burglaries.
Two sheds at the Greenfingers allotment site on Smithy Lane were broken into back in March despite them being secured with padlocks. The thieves got away with small pieces of equipment.
The alarms have been provided thanks to part-funding from LANPAC (Lancashire Partnership Against Crime) the shed owners have had to pay just 2 pounds towards the cost of the alarms.
PCSO Dennis Nelson said: “I really wanted to do something to help the allotment owners, who were left feeling vulnerable after the break ins. They tried to protect their possessions by using padlocks but unfortunately that didn’t stop the thieves.
“These shed alarms make a loud noise if disturbed and I’m hoping they will help get people’s attention if any more break ins happen. Thanks to the funding from Lanpac I have given out 20 alarms which means every shed will have one, I hope this helps warn off thieves and helps to reassure allotment owners.”
