Stepping Stones Nigeria
Safe Child Africa is the new name of the charity Stepping Stones Nigeria, which was originally founded by Lancaster teacher Gary Foxcroft and his wife Naomi in 2005 alongside Nigerian teacher Grace Udua. Their work was featured in the award-winning Channel 4 Dispatches documentary called Saving Africa’s Witch Children.
On Midsummer’s Eve, Saturday 20 June Safe Child Africa will also be holding their annual Witches Way Challenge
Over 400 years ago a group, later known as the Lancashire Witches, made an arduous and doomed journey through the Forest of Bowland to Lancaster Castle to be tried and then hung for the crime of witchcraft. 400 years on and such accusations still exist: horrendously pointed at children. Safe Child Africa works to protect and prevent the abuse, torture and abandonment of children who are victims to such accusations.
This Midsummer they invite you to take on the Witches Way Challenge and retrace the steps of the past and help create a better future for these children.
This unique 23 mile adventure, starting in Slaidburn and finishing in Lancaster will take you up fells, through forests and across rivers: all while giving you spectacular views of Pendle Hill, The Three Peaks and Morecambe Bay. Along the way you can also try and spot the tercet waymarkers; all individually bearing the name of one of the Pendle Witches.
The Witches Way Challenge is a fundraising event and participants pledge to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. The registration fee is just £20 before the end April and £40 after.
