Around 2,600 new students start at Lancaster university

each year.

Jan Brown, crime prevention officer, said: “Starting university is a really exciting time for students and crime prevention isn’t always top of their priorities when they are thinking about things like lectures, making new friends and going out to enjoy city life.

“As many students are living away from home for the first time, and no longer have parents looking out for them, they need to be aware of how they can help look after themselves and avoid becoming a victim of crime.”
