Ordeal for Boy, 15, Trapped in Morecambe Bay Mud

15/3/17: A 15 year old boy out walking with relatives on Morecambe Bay sands became trapped in mud and quicksand just a few hundred yards from the shore at about 2pm on Saturday afternoon. Unable to free him, a relative summoned the Coastguard Rescue Agency and their teams sped by hovercraft to save him.

Council asked to approve Freedom of the City for Cedric Robinson

8/4/14: Lancaster City councillors will be asked to approve granting the Queen’s Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson MBE, the Freedom of the City at a special meeting of Lancaster City Council later this month. The Queen’s Guide to the Sands is a Royally appointed guide to assist the safe crossing of the sands of Morecambe Bay.

Morecambe Bay Gas field to close?

2/5/11: Gas giant Centrica has threatened to close one of its Morecambe Bay gas fields, which provides some six per cent of the UK's annual gas needs. The possible move comes in response to increased taxes placed on oil companies and just as the three fields in Morecambe Bay are closed for a month of maintenance. Now, the BBC reports Centrica is saying it might not reopen the South Morecambe field.

This event, hosted by award winning heritage film director Chris Abram, is very unique and features film and photographic material going back to early Victorian times.
