Lancaster Castle’s ancient walls will echo to the sounds of ghostly goings on when a haunting festive event comes to the city on Friday 19th December to mark the launch of Poor Souls’ Light: Seven Curious Tales, a limited edition, locally printed book featuring seven ghostly tales for Christmas, with illustrations by Beth Ward.
The acclaimed independent writers’ collective ‘Curious Tales’ is bringing its latest work to the historic castle, the scene of the infamous Lancashire Witch Trials, as part of a winter tour of festive, ghostly performances across the North West.
Four of the stories in the group’s anthology will be performed by their authors – Jenn Ashworth, Richard Hirst, Tom Fletcher and Booker-shortlisted writer Alison Moore, introduced by Emma-Jane Unsworth – in the castle’s atmospheric rooms and haunted dungeons.
Listen to a tale about poltergeists in the famous Drop Room, with a view of the old execution stage. Hear a tale about war time grief and letters from beyond the grave in Hadrian’s Tower and experience the chilling tale of the Spite House in the Gothic criminal court…
The performance promises to be the group’s most haunting performance yet.
