People who live and work in Lancaster’s Skerton area are being invited to take part in a very special event on the Tuesday 12th October 12 at Skerton Community High School.
The event, called the Big Conversation, will bring members of the community and various organisations together to share their views and begin to develop a sustainable community plan for the future of Skerton.
It’s all part of part of the government’s Connecting Communities project, which aims to create a sustainable community plan for the Skerton area which will improve the life of all those living and working there.
Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council are working with organisations such as the Police, Jobcentre Plus, Skerton High School, the NHS, local residents’ associations and local children’s centres, to help shape the future of Skerton.
Over recent months conversations have taken place in the Skerton area including Beaumont, Vale, Mainway, Ryelands and Scale Hall.
Various groups including young people, young families, travellers, and adults with learning disabilities have been asked what they think is good about Skerton, and what three smallest things would make the biggest difference to their area.
Conversations have also taken place with many other members of the Skerton community. Help Direct volunteers have been out and about asking for people’s views along with representatives from Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council. A number of people have also had their say online.
The Big Conversation is the next stage of the project, where all the conversations and everyone’s views will be brought together, and a sustainable community plan will begin to be developed. This plan will help to improve quality of life for all Skerton residents.
• The Big Conversation takes place at Skerton Community High School on Tuesday, October 12 from 9.30am to 3pm. Lunch will be provided.
