Manchester alternative rock virtuosos Origami Tsunami will headline in the upstairs room of The Pub on China Street, Lancaster, from 7.30pm next Friday, 29 May.

They will be supported by Blackpool youngsters Amber and another Manchester outfit, power trio, No Service, as the co-op continues to fundraise towards the re-opening of its rehearsal facility, recording studio and music space on Lodge Street.

Lancaster Music Co-op has been homeless since 2018, but major structural repairs have been taking place, funded by £1.2m from the government’s Community Ownership Fund, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Lancaster’s High Street Heritage Action Zone and Lancaster City Council

There remains a £100,000 shortfall, however, and the Co-op is waiting to hear whether it can apply for Arts Council funding.

Headliners Origami Tsunami are favourites of BBC 6Music and BBC Introducing, and have been praised by renowned DJ Tom Robinson for their, ‘jaw-dropping musicianship’.

Releasing a steady stream of singles since their inception in 2019, the band are known for their blend of jazzy math rock sections, indie-alternative sincerity, and occasional bursts of post-hardcore intensity.

Four-piece Amber only formed in 2025 but have already been gaining a reputation in the North West with standout shows at venues like Bootleg Social in their hometown and The Ferret in Preston. Inspired by a wide variety of genres, such as grunge, folk and alternative rock, their unique sound is both raw and emotive.

Opening the night are No Service, sure to go down especially well with fans of Descendents and Buzzcocks. These pop-punk nutters are known for their explosive live shows and are regulars on the scene all over the region.

Co-op director, Holly Blackwell, one half of local psych-punk legends The Lovely Eggs, said: “We have another amazing night in store for local music fans, with some really exciting bands taking to our stage.

“The support we get at nights like this reminds us why we do this – how important music is to our community, and what a huge asset our newly refurbished co-op facility will be.

“We hope this coming summer will be our last before reopening and we urge anyone who loves their music to come on down to The Pub and help us to kick it off in style.”

Lancaster City Council, owner of the co-op’s premises, issued it with an eviction notice in 2018, but it was eventually granted a long-term lease following a community campaign and support from city councillors.

The huge renovation which was needed is making good progress, with the rehearsal rooms and recording studio having now been rebuilt. But funding is still needed to allow heating, air conditioning, a full electricity supply and lighting to be installed, flooring put in, and the public areas and office completed.

This LMC Presents event is free but donations on the door are very welcome

You can donate to the fundraising campaign here, and Co-opilation Vol #1, a compilation of tracks donated by artists who have used and supported the co-op over the years is available to download from the Music Co-op Bandcamp Channel here on a ‘pay what you feel’ basis with a suggested donation of £5.
