Money for Madagascar will be hosting its fourth Cross Bay Walk on Saturday 25th June 2022, to raise funds for many projects on the island.

Madagascar, whilst famous for its astonishing flora and fauna, is a country in crisis. After decades of economic disarray, levels of income, healthcare and education are amongst the lowest in the world with an estimated 70 per cent of the country living in poverty. Meanwhile, population growth is putting enormous pressure on precious rainforest, more than half of which has disappeared.

In response to this social and environmental crisis, UK charity Money for Madagascar was founded in 1986 to enable the Malagasy people to take charge of their own destiny.

The country is currently recovering from the impact of four powerful tropical storms and cyclones which hit the country in January and February, which have displaced over 100,000 people. Floods in the capital and the East swept away roads, crops and buildings, destroying lives and livelihoods. This was followed by houses, schools and infrastructure getting flattened in the Southern half of the Island.

Previous Cross Bay Walks organised by MfM raised over £16,000 in 2016, and over £8000 in 2021. Join the MfM Team on the iconic crossing by walking across Morecambe Bay, whilst raising funds to protect and educate vulnerable children and by protecting and restoring Madagascar’s unique rainforests.

“This iconic 7-8 mile walk from Arnside to Grange over Sands is an amazing experience not to be missed,” say the team.
