Parking in Lancaster City Centre will now be free from 3pm every weekday from Wednesday 11 December and run through until Christmas Day 2014. Sunday parking will remain free throughout the entire day for the same period.
The BID (Business Improvement District) has worked in partnership with the council to ensure free car parking on all City Council car parks in Lancaster City Centre after 3pm on Monday to Friday.
(Please note that the Mitre House car park on the corner of China St and St George’s Quay is privately owned by Parksafe.)
This comes as a direct response to low trading levels in the City Centre, and the BID is confident that this parking initiative will help increase footfall to local shops.
BID manager Liz Hickingbotham says: “I feel it is imperative that access to Lancaster City Centre is as easy as possible for customers to ensure they choose to shop locally. We realise car parking has always been an issue in the City Centre, and we hope that small changes like Free After Three will have a positive impact on trade over the festive period”.
