Lancaster Amateur Dramatics and Operatic Society (LADOS)

Lancaster Amateur Dramatic Society (as it was first known) was formed on Monday 26th January 1891 when a number of gentlemen met in the office of Mr. E. G. Clark and elected Sir Thomas Storey as the first President. On March 16th 1891 two productions, Blow for Blow and Ici Un Parle were performed at the Athenaeum, (renamed the Grand Theatre in 1908). Since then they have staged many productions at the Grand.
LADOS are always looking to recruit new members. They welcome singers, actors, dancers, backstage and technical staff – it is the combined efforts of everyone in the society that make their shows possible. Find out more here

There is a large variety of activities, ranging from life drawing to finger puppets and a busy, awesome social calendar. They are open to suggestions and do their best to create sessions that will suit everyone. Keep your arty side alive!
The Arts Society Lunesdale

The Arts Society Lunesdale was formed in 2003 and draws its members from the areas of North Lancashire and South Cumbria around the River Lune, which include Lancaster, Carnforth and Kirkby Lonsdale.
Their events provide welcoming places to hear expert lecturers share their specialist knowledge about the arts. The Arts Society Lunesdale offers its members ten lectures a year, as well as a full range of Special Interest Days, day trips to stately homes and galleries, and longer trips to places of artistic interest in the UK and abroad. It draws most of its speakers from the excellent pool of Arts Society lecturers but also occasionally calls on distinguished local experts on topics of special interest.

Lancaster Photographic Society

Founded in 1889, Lancaster Photographic Society is for anyone with an interest in photography. Everyone is welcome! “We are people who make pictures purely for the joy of making pictures,” they say. “Our members use all kinds of photographic equipment, from film cameras to the latest DSLRs to mobile phones, drones and mirrorless cameras.
“The photographic equipment that you have isn’t important, so come along and learn how to develop your photography skills.”
The Society meet on Monday evenings, 7.30 til about 10 (and then on to the pub), at: St Thomas’ Centre, Marton Street, Lancaster LA1 1XX, with formal meetings from September to April, and workshops and trips over the summer months.
