Heritage Open Days returns to Lancaster and Morecambe Bay from 11-20 September, opening the doors to castles, churches, theatres, artists’ studios, museums, heritage sites and hidden spaces across the district, all for free.


This year’s theme, Everyday Histories, celebrates the lives, work and experiences of ordinary people who shaped the places we know today.
Local events include tours of Lancaster’s Grand Theatre,
St Wilfrid’s Church, a Lancashire Police Museum & the Detective quiz, Victorian time travel tours and much more.
Step behind the scenes, meet local experts, uncover fascinating stories and explore the rich heritage of Lancaster and Morecambe Bay through tours, talks, exhibitions, walks and family-friendly activities. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply curious about your local area, there’s something waiting to be discovered.
