Monday is your last chance to register to vote in both general and local elections.

Changes instituted by Labour and completed by the Tories mean you are not automatically registered to vote. This particularly affects groups like students.

You should also check that you are registered if you have done so recently. While reports we have received of voter registrations not yet being processed have been dismissed – one councillor has described them as nonsense – perhaps it’s a matter of better safe than sorry, especially if you have yet to receive your Polling Card.

If you don’t think it is worth turning out to vote, you may be interested to know that statistics gathered by the research company Survation indicate elections in the UK are decided by people not voting
